The game can be played indoor as well as outdoors.It can be played in singles,doubles and mix double.The court can be of clay,concrete,natural or artificial grass.The surface should be perfectly plane so that the ball rebounds constantly.The court is 23.77 m in length and 10.97 m in width.It is divided in two halves longitudinally.The two long lines are the boundary lines for the double.A line at a distance of 1.37 m from the boundary line for the doubles is drawn inside an either side,These are the boundary lines for the singles.The lines which bound the court on side and base are called side line and base line respectively.
From the middle line at a distance of 6.40 m a line parallel to it on either side is drawn.It is called the surface service line.The area between the two central lines is divided by a line in two equal parts.This line is known as the surface line.The area between the service line and the base line is known as back court.
